What is a “look”?
A “look” is the fancy industry term for an outfit. If we start shooting in jeans, a t-shirt and a sweater that would be considered one look. As soon as you change say your t-shirt and take off the sweater that would be an additional look.
What do you mean by digital copies of photos?
Instead of loading all your images onto a CD and shipping them to you via snail mail or making you go out of your way to come pick it up, we have chosen to send you a private link to your images for reviewing them online. In addition to viewing them you can download them to your computer to keep forever! Not to mention it’s definitely more eco-friendly! YAY!
Why do you color correct my photos?
Here’s the brief explanation without going into too much technical detail: We shoot in a RAW file format so the photos that the camera spits out aren’t as punchy and colorful because the camera hasn’t messed with any of the details as it would when shooting .jpegs. We take the RAW files and give them balance between colors, blacks and whites so they look impressive without any retouching needed! This way we can ensure the best colors and highest resolutions possible.
You say that you don't use MUA’s for acting and modeling headshots? This is against every blog post I’ve read and I’m skeptical here...
It’s good to be skeptical with things like this! Especially when investing in yourself and your career. Just to clarify, this is for acting and modeling headshots: Imagine you sign up for a dating website and someone you decide to go out with looks like a gorgeous and flawless model online, but then when you meet in person they’re well... underwhelming. Now, if you have a professional do your hair and makeup for your headshots and the pictures look amazeballs to all the casting directors or agencies, but you walk in the room having done your own hair and makeup (not hating on your skills) it would render the same effect as the date you went on. Professionals are good at what they do and it’s hard to recreate their work. If it was easy you’d be taking your own headshots!
Wouldn’t retouching have the same effect as a pro makeup artist?
It could, however depending on what the shots are for (like for acting and modeling headshots) we tone it back a bit. We aren't going to retouch your chosen photo(s) to Victoria’s Secret status only because we would be doing you a disservice in the same manner as the previous question. We do remove any sleep left under your eyes, lighten up wrinkles a bit, take care of blemishes and blotchy skin. Nothing more. No matter what the shoot is for Alex has pledged not to alter anyones body or natural appearance. Moles, freckles, scars, curves and birthmarks are all a part of our character. Own it and love yourself!
What should I do to prepare for my shoot?
When preparing for your shoot keep in mind the things discussed during your consultation as far as clothing and looks. Be sure and drink plenty of water the week or days leading up to your shoot. Keeping hydrated invigorates the skin, clears pores and makes you feel refreshed! In addition, get plenty of sleep. You’ll be a happier person and it will reflect in your shots. Girls do your makeup, a bit of concealer, lip gloss(stick) and eyebrow touch ups are perfect! Guys depending on your look make sure the facial hair is shaved or groomed to the desired effect. Everyone should do their hair and prepare for changing it up a bit. We have blotting paper for the skin and a full service bathroom to keep on top of things during the shoot!
What should I expect when I arrive and am shooting?
When you arrive expect Alex and his studio assistant finishing the set up. He always has water and will request to know your favorite snack and beverage (coffee, tea etc.). He loves blasting his music - whether it be house, grunge, alt, or classics - he’ll be jamming out. If you have a music preference or bring you own we will definitely hook it up! When shooting, Alex will direct you to the best angles, but please feel free to throw in your own moves! He and his assistant love to make people laugh and genuinely want to get to know you. It helps them get your money-shot that can help your career!
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards, cash and checks.
What amenities does the studio have?
The studios in LA and OC all have free WIFI (yaaaay!), a lounge, TV, full restrooms, magazines, and makeup stations!
What is your rescheduling policy?
As mentioned below you can definitely reschedule one time! We just need to know 48 hours ahead of time. If you need to reschedule more than once or with late notice it’s $50. That’s to cover lost clients and overhead.
Can I bring a friend?
Of course! Friends are awesome sauce! As long as they won’t interrupt your flow or make your feel awkward, it’s great! They know you best and can help get those expressions out of you!
